Therapeutic Services provided and promoted via Ashi.co.za falls within the Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) industry or the Beauty-Health-Skincare-Spa industry and where it is legally regulated, The Practice of Christo A. Scheepers complies with the necessary legislation, regulations and restrictions:
(1) Legal Status of Therapeutic Reflexology
Therapeutic Reflexology holds statutory registration status in South Africa with the Allied Health Professions Act (Act 63 of 1982) as amended and promulgated on 12 February 2001. The Allied Health Professions Council of South Africa (AHPCSA) formally regulates the practice of Therapeutic Reflexology and it is illegal to financially gain from the profession without being formally registered and regulated by them. Due to this regulation by the AHPCSA, there are clear boundaries of what Therapeutic Reflexologists may and may not do as pertained in the AHPCSA Regulations and Scope of Practice for Therapeutic Reflexology. The Private Practice of Christo A. Scheepers is legally set up to provide therapeutic reflexology in a separate entrance office and making use of a separate website at christoscheepers.co.za to keep any additional services separate from the therapeutic reflexology practice as per legal requirements.
(2) Legal Status of Specialist Wellness Counselling (including Bodywork)
Wellness services offered are offered at the Private Practice of Christo A. Scheepers as part of the Specialist Wellness Counsellor (SAQA Reg ID 896) profession, a designation of the Association of Supportive Counsellors and Holistic Practitioners (ASCHP), a South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) recognised professional body (SAQA ID 984) on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) (Act 67 of 2008). Registration with ASCHP provides para-professional status to Specialist Wellness Counsellors as it is a non-statutory profession regulating non-psychological counsellors in South Africa. Bodywork forms part of the Scope of Practice of Specialist Wellness Counsellors and may include unregulated massage techniques (as in the beauty/spa/health & skincare industry) as per the training of the Specialist Wellness Counsellor. At the Private Practice of Christo A. Scheepers, bodywork and specialist wellness counselling and related services are offered legally from the same premises by making use of a separate entrance office.
(3) Legal Status of Massage
Christo A. Scheepers does not practice therapeutic massage and therefore any reference made to massage is not within the domain of formal regulation by the AHPCSA, as therapeutic massage is a formally regulated profession. Any reference made to massage is done within the confines of the boundaries of bodywork therapy and/or within the domain of unregulated massage (the so-called "body rub") as used within the Beauty-Health-Skincare-Spa industry.
